Retained primitive reflexes- may be a sign of developmental dalay or neurological immaturity in the child. The primitive reflexes form the base of a child's motor development. At first the baby's movements are involuntary, such as sucking, gripping, and extending the arm on the same side as head rotation. Later, the movements become voluntary and more complex. The next step is the postural reflexes that give rise to skills such as sitting, crawling and standing. A delay in the integration of the primitive reflexes may delay more complex motor development and cause a delay. The primitive reflexes should be integrated by 4-6 months. Is your child showing motor delay? Have the reflexes checked!
